  • Basic Course
  • Advanced Course

This course aims to improve teamwork and leadership skills through the use of low ropes activities. The GLA Basic course is available for students from 4th through 7th grade. The goal of the course is to prevent students from using drugs.

In order to accomplish this, the students are presented with activities that foster self-esteem, team-building, and social skills. The activities present an opportunity for students to exercise responsibility, communication, decision making and critical thinking skills.

By exercising these skills, we strive to make students better decision makers and thus less prone to using drugs. The basic course requires a minimum of four and a maximum of eight sessions. Each session lasts from 45-60 minutes. Sessions are held once a week with one class per session.

This course is available for high school sports, student government and student leadership programs. The advanced course is also available for state government and community organizations designed for family strengthening and drug prevention.

The advanced course takes the basic course a step further by addressing team cohesiveness and leadership skills. Teamwork and leadership skills are developed through hands-on activities and group debriefs. To maximize the efficiency of the workshop, groups should have a minimum of ten and no more than approximately 20 people.

Arrangements can be made for groups larger than 30 people. The advanced course can be done in one session or multiple sessions. If a single session is done, a minimum of 2 hours is required for that session. Multiple sessions can be 2 or more sessions with a minimum of 1 hour per session.
